Hello, all...I am putting together my first dedicated A/V system (stereo for now) and will likely be using 1988 Infinity RS 1000 bookshelf speakers (that I'm refoaming) for the mains, for the time being anyway. I'll be using a Cambridge 840A integrated amp. It will be used about 70% for music and 30% for HT.

I am considering the VTF-1 but am concerned with a possible gap between the Infinity's and the subwoofer. The Infinity's go down to 72hz according to the manual, but I know from listening that they're weak from around 90hz down (the "woofers" are only 4 1/2 inches, in a non-ported enclosure).

The room is approximately 12 x 13, with two small adjoining rooms (regular sized doorways on adjoining walls in one corner). Do you think there would be a noticeable gap?

Hi Headlands,

The VTF-1 should work very nicely with those speakers. The VTF/ULS subwoofers have a flat response to 200Hz and beyond. Try 90Hz crossover to start, or somewhere close to that.

No gap there with that sub.
You can try an even higher oxver point. If Infinity says it begins to roll off at 72hz, then they might start at 90hz or even 100hz.So try what Pete suggested.

Thanks for the answers, guys.

I ordered the VTF-1 and it's getting here today. I'll report back after I refoam the Infintys (later this week the kits should be getting here).

Cheers,
N
