Hi,
My brotherinlaw has a ventriloquist system (with sub.. package 2) on my recommendation. I was just over at their place and the center is very muffled and muddy. I tried both switch positions on the center... it seemd a little better when in the "normal" non ventriloquist position, but still not good at all. I pulled the grill and the speakers are were working and there was not apparent damage or tears. I checked the wiring and it seemed correct. This was on all sources, being fed by a newere panasonic receiver so I don't think it is source related.. (feeding the tv only the sound was fine)..

I'm a big HSU fan and have a VTF3Mk3 myself and have recommended HSU to a number of people.

Any suggestions on what is going on? He's past the 30 day return window or I would just have told him to return it.

Assuming that the positioning of the center speaker is not horribly compromised, then maybe it could be a blown 2.5" driver? I suggest that your brother in law send an email to techsupport, and let us know if any auto-eq was used, what are the channel levels on the receiver, etc.

Thanks

Pete,
Thanks for the quick reply. The center is in an entertainment center, it's in a shelf area that is a fairly close fit around it, but the front is flush with the front of the shelves and is not recessed at all. No auto eq was used (the receiver does not have that) and the channel levels are all normal and have not been run any where near hot. The small driver did have movement when I took the grill off and viewed. It did not have as much excursion as the 2 side drivers, but was definitely moving. Is there any way to definitively tell if the driver is blown? That should be covered by the warranty if that is the problem, shouldn't it?
Thanks in advance,
Joe H

That is correct Joe, this would be covered under warranty. Your brother in law can email or call us, and we'll go from there. Typically when vocals sound muffled, then it's a sign that the small driver is blown.

Sincerely,
