I have the oppurtunity to buy this subwoofer, but I'm not sure if I will need additional equipment. I currently have a denon avr-3803 that I will use to power this sub. Here are the specs on it:

"If you have one of the recent home theater receivers, and it has an amp for the low-frequency-effects channel (the “.1” in 5.1), it will drive this speaker directly. If it doesn’t have an LFE (sub) amp, you will need one more channel of amplification (not for sale with this unit) and need to check your receiver manual to see if it has bass management built in. If it does, the receiver can act as your crossover to the sub amp"

Can anyone let me know if this sub is all I need and if not what else I'm going to have to buy and how much this will cost. I guess in the end im wondering if it is just worth is to buy a vtf-2?

Thank you all,

If that denon receiver is what you are using to power the other speaker, then you would not have any spare channels to power the sub.

If you are going to use your own amp, you probably would need Hsu's bass optimizer, which will flatten out the low end down to 25hz.

Plus, your amp should be able to easily drive into a 4 ohm load for sustained period, since LFE is not just the short duration peaks that other speakers encounter.

To bring the sub to the equiv of a VTF-2, you would probably need to buy a VTF-2 driver, which would cost you in the $70 range.

So to get a amp, Hsu's bass optimizer and a VTF-2 driver, you might not be too far off from the price of a VTF-2.

BTW, I hope you mean the HRSW10V and not the HRSW10, since from what I know, the 10 is a rather tall unit.
