View Full Version : Placement of STF-2 & Rear Center?

I am looking at the VT-12 and STF-2. The sub will have to be placed approx. 16 feet (perpendicular to the front center) from L&R and front center. The rear center will have to be placed approx 1-2 feet, or so, from the sub and only 6 inches or so off the floor.

I will do the placement chart later, but wanted some preliminary thoughts. So, what do you think?

I'm sure I will have more questions later. Thanks.
Mike

Why only 6" off of the floor?

Placement will have to be under a "parsons" bench. If the rear center has to go in the center of the back wall, that's the only place I have. Thanks for your interest.

Can't say for sure without seeing the room diagram, but it seems to me that placing the rear higher but off center might work better than having it 6" off of the floor. Is there room to place it higher if it is off center?

Thanks for your help, Dudley. If I can figure out how to post some pix of the room, I will do so when I get home.

Man, I could not upload the pix, even after shrinking down to 640 x 450. I posted the same question on the AVSForum. Thanks for your help.

I had the same problem with shrinking pictures I had taken with a digital camera and saved as JPG files. I ende up using Microsoft Office Picture Manager to open the files and then exported them as JPG files at 448x336 (web small). After that they posted.

Retread, thanks for the info re pix size. Now, maybe I can get some help with speaker placement.

Please take a look at the attached pix and give me your thoughts.

I plan on putting the L&R fronts either inside the wall unit (see black area in pix--those are removable grills) or on top of the unit. The spread is a little more than 8'. The front center will go on top of the TV, as recommended.

The sub can go on the floor to the right of the wall unit or to the right of the parsons bench (rear pix). The L&R rears will be placed 1) to the left of the bench and 2) near a chair that is not shown in the pix.

If I place the sub by the wall unit, I can place the rear center by the bench instead of under it.

This is my first surround sound so please overlook my lack of understanding.

Thanks for your help.

The sub would probably work best to the left of the TV in the corner, and I would put the rear between the bench and the opening to the right and about 6' off of the ground.

Send a quick sketch (there is a program that lets you draw your room on this site) to HSU for further/more detailed locations.

I agree with Dudly on the subwoofer location. The front left and right speakers might sound a bit better on stands near ear level, but I wound't worry about it too much.

I've upped the size of Jpeg attatchements. Currently, the limit is 700 pixels accross. Printable is 560 px, so I think this is the best size until I can automatically downsize attatchments that are too large.

Here is a Microsoft XP Power Toy that can resize an image with a right click:
