View Full Version : Side Placement - Any Grills Available?

Because of the tight space I have my unit squeezed into, I'm thinking about switching to a side placement for my STF-2. I plan to experiment first, but if I do decide to go this route, I would really like to add a grill to protect the driver.

Any chance HSU might offer a grill option for side placement? It could have a nice "HSU" logo on it! :) I imagine it would be easy to attach given the threaded holes for the feet.

Of course, then I'll have to tack some feet onto the bottom. I'll probably use rubber feet.

will you get a space advantage if you place it on its side?

You can try this site - they have just about anything you can imagine.

Good luck.

You are not the only person who has suggested something like this. While we like the down firing orientation, there is no harm in placing the subwoofer on its side. If you have limited space or a very thick pads with very deep carpet, this is a good fix. As has been suggested elsewhere, some sort of forward firing option is being considered for future releases of the VTF line, and a grill also. Having a HSU logo on the front is a new idea.

I have a VTF-3R and currently have it in a small semi-corner made by the foyer opening into the listening room.

One of the other potential locations would be along the wall of the foyer just at the point where it opens into the listening room. However, that would result in the electronics either facing people coming in the door or going out. Spouses don't particularly think electronics add to the decor. I was thinking that a nice similarly colored cover with open air flow would be good, but wouldn't want to toast the amp.

Anyone have any experience with this kind of thing?

Sasha, I would be a very willing beta tester! :)

BTW, my placement issue is that my sub is behind my home theater rack of gear and I think it's getting muddied back there. There is a slight opening near one side of the pile of gear and I am thinking about aiming the driver out of this opening. I am hesitant because this would expose my driver to inadvertent damage. I have a golden retreiver who might sniff around in there. A grill would be perfect.

I do agree that the electronics could be ugly, but as I said, they'll be behind the rack. Also, I would be careful covering this side. It's where the port is.

We would like to accept a few beta testers. Work to bring your post count up, and we'll add you to the group!
