I have a roughly 6 year old VTF-2 (I think that's the model -- it's been over six years after all). It has stopped working and is outputting some sort of noise (tough to describe, but sort of a soft thumping or wah-wah-wah) while in the standby mode, and even when it is receiving a feed from the receiver. I shut it down for a couple days and when I turned it back on, it worked fine for a few minutes while I was testing it. However, after I turned the receiver off after the brief test, the Sub started the strange noise while in standby all over again, and further, it again does not play the bass feed when I crank the receiver back up.

Is this some sort of amp problem? How do I diagnose the problem and attempt to fix it? If it matters, this Sub has never been pushed hard -- it's in a reasonably sized room and has never been set above 1/4 to 1/3 on the dial for output -- and we have not had any lightning strikes.

Hi Blue,

Go ahead and email techsupport, or give us a call tomorrow, and we will troubleshoot.

Thanks

Sincerely,

Thanks. I'll do that in the next few days when I have some time to be at home with the sub while I'm on the line.

I just sent an e-mail to tech support describing almost the same problem for my VTF-2

My VTF-2 is also acting strange. On big bass passages in movies, I get a kind of popping. This is with both internal and the receivers x-over. When in standby, I can actually hear faint Mexican music coming from the sub!....no, I haven't been drinking tequila. It also just sounds off. "one notey". As far as the popping on big hits goes, I first thought the foam surround might be compromised. Used a little silicon, per tech support, but it didnt help. The driver and surround seem to be intact. Amp problem? Any ideas?

Yup, looks like the amps will be in need of some servicing. Beyond five years and approaching ten years with these amps, there may be some components that need replacing. Feel free to give us a call for further instructions...
