carpet vs hardwood floor

I just purchased the vtf3 sub and have hooked it up in the living room which has deep pyle carpet. The distance from the bottom of the sub to the carpet is very close. Does this effect the performance or should I place a hardwood platform under it so that the sub has more distance from the bottom to the floor or platform. Obviously if I put the sub in a room with a hardwood floor the clearance from the bottom to the floor would be greater.

Does this make a difference?

If there is too little clearance, there might be a problem. You could try putting some blocks under the spikes to give it some more height. Its worth a try, anyway.

I put blocks under the spikes last night and it made a difference. I actually had to turn the volume down. The lower extension was amazing.
