Effect Sound?

I am considering the VT12 as an option due to the good reviews and because comp usa selling them locally at relatively reasonable price with a nice sub however I am hesitant because of issues regarding placement and the functinality of the speakers.

However my house was prewired for 5.1 by the old owner, the rear terminals are high up on the back wall an d somewhat closer in, I can mount them a little further apart and conceal the wires but don't know how much room I have to play with.

I plan on moving the couch out a bit from the wall, possibly a few feet, but not much.

I wish I had a picture of the front speaker mounts but never thought of photographing it...However the front mount for one of them is about three feet away from that window curtain right on the wall and the opposite front is on the other side mounted on that drop in the roof. where the recessed lighting. The TV will be set another four feet back in a small alcove with the center mounted on top of it.

I have heard that placement is key with the VT12 system which is why I am concerned as I know this does not conform with the traditional HT setup...

I am absolutely not willing to use stands and not willing to rewire basement and relocate the speakers as first off I am lazy, secondly I really don't like the look of stands, and thirdly it would be a big pain in the rear.

I am mainly wondering if this system will sound ok (as I am comming from simply TV speakers and nothing more) or if I should look at something which isn't as picky with placement by another brand (although I know this is the HSU forum so...)

Also wondering how running this in 5.1 will effect performance as the basement is only wired for 5.1 and again I don't want to run wires for a 6.1 setup at this time

thanks

It will still be a big step up from TV speakers. Even with 5.1 and non optimal speaker placement. I wouldn't worry about the surrounds too much, the fronts may be a little too far to the side, make sure the center is not to low or close to the rear wall and is aimed correctly. Try it first to see how it sounds, and go from there.

Thanks, after thinking about it further, I could always just not use his front speaker mounts and put the fronts either on that wall just over the TV or even if I absolutely have to get stands....just wondering what good wall mounts were for these speakers? thanks
