Hello all,
I'm wanting to augment my system with another sub. After doing a little research, I came across Hsu Research, and consequently this forum. I am interested in a little help from you audiophiles.

I currently have a Denon 1803 as my receiver.

I have infinity:
IL25 center
IL30 rears
IL40 fronts

I am also using a 1 polk subwoofer from their RT3000P speakers - here's a link www.polkaudio.com/home/specs.php?recent=1&category=3&speaker=9 . (I came across one for a great price and have really enjoyed the sub thus far).

I like the sound, but, as usual I want more. I am hoping to build a good solid system that will last me for many years.

My current idea is to add a tn-1220HO, or even more appealing to me, build my own sub using a HSU driver and maybe their bass optimizer and 250w amp. I am wanting to maybe "tune" the Polk to handle the frequencies in the upper low end range and use a HSU to fill in the bottom end (I'm hoping by dividing the lows up I can acheive both more clarity and a higher SPL)

First, is this possible?
Second, does this make any sense to do?
Third, am I better off buying a sub, or building my own ( I would prefer to build my own to save money, and of course to occupy my time)?
And finally, how would I both build a sub, and my system?

Any help on this matter would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Chris Becker

Buy the TN1220HO and 500W amp. Then, when you want more bass later, you simply add another TN sub. It is not exactly cheap, but the quality of bass, along with the quantity, will blow you away; in audio, I don't know of a better price to performance ratio... Don't waste your time with the polk sub and the HSU sub; there is simply no comparison between them. You'll probably ebay the polk after hooking up the HSU. I sold my Sunfire True Subwoofer right after getting my pair of TN subs.

I've got a pair of TN subs, a Bass Optimizer, and run them off the surround channels of my Sunfire Cinema Grand power amp. I'd like to get the HSU amp, but can't justify the upgrade when I don't need the amp channels elsewhere (my receiver powers the surrounds just fine, it only had issues with the fronts).

If you have a spare 250-500W (at 4 ohms) amp laying around, then a single TN and the bass optimizer should do nicely, and be quite inexpensive to boot.

You could also email Dr. Hsu (fill out the form for placement advice, and he'll recommend a sub and where to place it).
