I am thinking of purchasing the Denon AVR-2805 AV receiver along with the HSU VT-12's and STF-2 sub.

Will this receiver match up well with this speaker combo?

I know this is a loaded question, but I would appreciate opinions.

Given that we are feeding all video directly into our TV (Samsung 61" "63 Series" DLP TV) with DVI's and a DVI switcher, the video part of the AV receiver is overkill for us. Thus, if there was a better amp for less money that has the good surround system features but without the video inputs and outputs, we would be open to that option.

I've always been a believer that you should spend at least as much money on the receiver as you do your speaker system, so at $600-$800 or so the AVR-2805 is right around our budget.

I think you can get a reciever for less than $300 that will sound just as good as the Denon. It will have fewer inputs, and fewer features, but you stated that was overkill.

If you want to stick with Denon, then the 1805 is more than you really need. Onkyo has the 502 for around $250, and it is good enough that HSU uses it for its demos. Some of the new Yamahas are nice too.

Buy a reciever for its features, not its sound. The difference in sound between recievers is an order of magnitude lower than the difference between speakers.

I have an Denon 1804 and it sounds great. You can by it new for 350 or refurbed for 275. It is very flexible with plenty of video/audio outputs including component video rated for 30 Mhz of bandwidth. Do your homework. I looked at this site and others to help make up my decision.

Just purchased a nice lcd HDTV and am currently shopping for speaker systems. The issue is this....my room is 14' x 30', only one end of the room is used for TV with an approximate size of 14" x 14'. My wife and I would prefer NOT to install speakers behind the viewing area. Is it possible to use a 5.1 Hsu system by keeping all of the speakers in front of us?

You can just leave out the back speaker and install the two surrounds on the sides towards the back, and that should work fine.

2805 is over kill for a satellite system. I would suggest you get Onkyo 602 instead of 502.
