Help!

There are posts about how to hook up subs without a definitive answers to one particular issue. Maybe I'm just too much of a newbie, but it seems a no one ever answers this directly. Should you run a SINGLE cable from the receiver to the sub (if that's possible at both ends) or is two better, (R & L)? I can't find anywhere which tells me which is best if both are supported. I know there are lots of different subs out there and it seems the hook up isn't very standardized.

My impression has been that a single cable (usually RCA) from the pre-out to the sub is best but some appear to accept either one or two (R/L). If you run a single cable from your pre-out is there any benefit to (or problem with) using a "Y" cable and plugging into both the R/L.

Thanks

If you run a single cable and "y" it to two inputs on the sub it will increase the output of the sub, but it is no different than turning up the volume on the sub, so I wouldn't bother.

Sometimes more wire = more interference. One good quality cable is simpler and cheaper. You'll never notice the difference and you'll spend your money elsewhere....CDs, SACDs, DVDs, etc!

On the VTF subs which have stereo low level inputs you just have to run a single rca-rca lead from the LFE/SUB output on the receiver/pre-amp to the left hand low level input of the VTF. I use a good sheilded video cable like Belden 1694a complete with Rca fittings. This is because its cheap and well sheilded to help with rejecting interference.

Below under Method A is what it says in the VTF manual (see PDF file - Hookup - Page 4)
http://www.hsuresearch.com/VTF_MK2_manual.pdf

Method A. Connecting to controllers with a SUBWOOFER or LFE output

If you have this, you should use it. All Dolby Digital, DTS, THX, and Bass Management equipped controllers have a low level SUBWOOFER or LFE output. It offers the easiest and best connection.
Run a cable from it to the subwoofer’s low level SUB-IN input. A standard mono interconnect cable with RCAjacks on both ends can be purchased from electronics and audio stores. A special subwoofer cable is not needed, and neither is a Y-connector. When wiring, allow for an extra yard or two. The
cables should lie flat with a little bit of slack to give you some placement flexibility.
Set your controller to enable subwoofer output. To do this, go to the SPEAKER SET-UP or BASS MANAGEMENT menu and set the SUBWOOFER to ON or YES. All the speakers should be set to SMALL if possible. This directs the deep bass from the satellites to the subwoofer, freeing them and their amplifiers from the rigorous demands of reproducing bass.

Thanks all.

I had thought one cable made more sense, but never could find that definitively stated anywhere.
