How big of a deal is it that the sub be on carpet? My sub has to be on hardwoods. Am I screwed?

I think Dr. Hsu recommends carpet because he believes it sounds better with carpet immediately beneath the sub. However, I think you only need carpet directly under the sub. Even a welcome mat might work fine. The only thing to be careful of with carpet is that you have enough clearance beneath the sub. Some people with thick carpeting elevate the sub slightly.

However, if you want to put the sub on hardwood, it isn't the end of the world. People do it, and they are still happy.

Two things to remember:

1 - Wherever you put the sub, calibrate it!

2 - If you put it on hardwood, get some sort of protection to put under the feet to protect your floor and to keep the feet from rattling or "walking" around.

How big of a deal is it that the sub be on carpet? My sub has to be on hardwoods. Am I screwed?

Go to a carpet store - they always have out of date samples that they are throwing away. They are just the right size.

what do you know?

When I was looking for pcs of carpets, I went to the store and I picked out the 2 sizes that looked about right. They were both the perfect size - i don't know how I did it but I did. Total cost: $5.00

Would you want to put rubber mats for your Rolls Royce? Same with your Hsu subwoofer. You should not let it sit on top of anything less than 200 line silk rug.
