I have read ina few places that if One uses a subwoofer y splitter and inserts it in to the Rand L inputs on the sub, they will notice a 3 DB gain in output. Is there any validity to this?

Generally, that's correct. By using a Y-Splitter, you're sending twice the amount of voltage into the amp and thus gives 3 dB gain in output. The only reason for doing this is if you're having problem waking up subwoofer from standby due to the receiver not sending enough voltage output to wake the sub at lower volume. Otherwise, if you want an additional 3 dB gain in output, just increase your sub's gain or channel trim on your receiver. The results are the same.

The subwoofer output is not 3 db higher, the LFE signal into the sub is increased by 3 db so it wakes the sub up quicker.

Thanks for the feedback. I thnk I am going to go with this option becase my subs IMHO are a bit sluggish on waking up. If I can get them to respond quicker without havint to boost gain and risk distortion, that will be a good thing.
Thanks again.
