Ok - I'm posting here in the HSU forum, so I already know what I'm going to hear :)

Anyway, I've always been a lurker, and recently I went the internet route for speakers for the first time in ordering the Ascend Acoustics - CMT340M R/L, CMT340 C, and CBM170 for Side Surrounds.

I already have a sub I am very happy with, a Paradigm PW-2200 V.2. This sub has a 12" driver, a 400 watt amp that can peak at 1500 watts, and is rated at 20 hz to 150 hz @ < 0.1% THD and a low frequency extension down to 18hz. At the time of purchase, I was looking at the HSU VTF-3R for $899, but since it was more money (before shipping even) the PW, in my mind, was the best value.

Now, the Canadian $ is much stronger, plus HSU has a Canadian distributor to boot.

So, Sasha or Peter, does the $699 price hold firm for your Canadian Distributor as well on this sub? If so, do I order through you and is it sent from Toronto?

For anyone who has had in the past a PW-2200 sub - since both these subs are so familiar in characteristics (although the PW has a front firing driver, adn the HSU driver is down at the ground), and since I have no way of listening to the HSU sub without ordering it, convince me why the VTF- MKII sub is superior to the PW-2200 at the roughly the same price point.

Oh, my room - I emailed Dr. HSU once with my dimensions, and he was kind enough to show me the correct spot, which is where the PW-2200 is. Anyway, the room is 12'W x 25'L with 7.5'H. The room isn't 'sealed', there is a staircase leading upstairs, but at the top of the stairs is a door. so with it closed you could call it 'sealed'. You know my main speakers, and I also have an H/K 520 Receiver. My usage is about 50/50 HT and Multi-channel/stereo music.

Thanks for any and all input - that $699 deal on the Rosewood subs is almost too good to pass up :)

Looks to me like the price is $999.50CAD at the Canadian distributor's website for a VTF-3...

Yes - in matte black only - and $100 more expensive then the PW-2200 before shipping :(

Well the VTF-3 MKII is more comparable to the Servo 15 in terms of overall extension and output and sound quality, so in that sense it is a bargain.

If so, which version of the Servo - V.1 or the newer and much more expensive V.2?

Thanks

The v1.

There is a review on the original VTF-3 by Howard Ferstler. He felt it compared very well to the old Servo15. But really, the VTF-3 and Servo15 take different approaches towards bass, ported vs sealed servo sub.

I think my PW-2200 is a much better comparison, as the 'main' difference between the two is the fact that the PW is front firing.

Thanks!

The VTF-3 definitely extends noticeably lower than the PW2200 v1. Don't know how much has changed for v2.
