I'm trying to figure out a way to use the STF-2 or maybe the STF-1 with my Onkyo TX-8511 stereo receiver. It has a TAPE-2 Monitor loop that is like preout/main-in jacks, but is before the volume control. I want to highpass the mains. I was thinking of using a cheap passive line-level highpass filter and splitting the signal at the CD player or the tape loop, but Dr. Hsu pointed out that this would drive me crazy because I would have to readjust the sub level every time I changed the volume.
I was wondering whether I could put the Hsu highpass filter box in the tape loop and use it to control the volume of both the mains and the sub. I understand that I might not have the full range of volume settings that I would have with the receiver volume control, but that is probably okay because I could just switch the tape loop off and listen without the sub at low volumes.
I was also wondering whether the STF-2 has a speaker-level highpass, and what its freq. and slope are.
