View Full Version : How should I wire to an Onkyo 602?

My VT-12s just came in, and I'm excited, but confused about how I should wire them to my receiver, a 7.1-channel Onkyo TX-SR602. The receiver has two "surround" posts, two "surround back" posts, and then others for the center and such. You can look at a picture here http://im1.onecall.com/Image_Products/onkyo/txsr602rear.jpg.

The manual (http://im2.onecall.com/Image_Products/Onkyo/txsr702_602.pdf) for the 602 says that for a 6.1 configuration, use both "surround" posts and the left "surround back." Maybe I'm just not trusting it enough, but I'm bothered that the VT-12 comes with three back surrounds, and it seems like I'd be using them as side speakers. This sounds ok, but I figured I'd ask the experts what the best solution is.

So, two questions:
1) to which posts should I wire the three rear speakers in the VT-12 set?
2) if I use the (side) surround posts on my receiver, should I position the "rear left" and "rear right" speakers in front of the rear center, close to my listening position?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Put the surround speakers on the side, and the surround back speaker behind you. Hook up the rear surround to your reciever as it says in the manual - hook it up to the left surround back terminal. Hook up your left and right surrounds to the left and right surround terminals on the reciever.

Don't forget to jumper the two inputs on your rear speaker - use the wires provided.

I will be getting that receiver in a week or two. Let me know your experiences with the 602. I know they had some problems in the video switching area but otherwise everyone has nice things to say about it. If you have any links to or know of any professional reviews, please let me know.

Thanks,
