I just received and set up my VTF-2 Mark II. I am using the sub in near field placement of a very small room by necessity. I am finding it difficult to fine tune the output. My optimum setting puts the volumn dial at approximately 1.5 out of ten. It seems that at this location so low in the range of the control, the adjustment is very course. By this I mean that the slightest movement of the dial at this location causes a large difference in the output. From nearly no output to almost too much for my setup. Is there a way to trim this adjustment to put me higher up the dial where the adjustment zone for my required output might be a bit finer. I am feeding the sub with a pre-out off my control amp. The subs crossover is in and set to 90 Hz. I am in max extension mode with the phase switch at 0 degrees. I am using the unit for two channel stereo with a pair of Magnepan MGMC1's. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Are you using the high level inputs? If you're using a receiver with a subwoofer out, you can lower the sub output level, which would require an increase in the gain on the subwoofer amplifier. Using the high level inputs, I don't know what you can do.

I am using a two channel stereo control amp and power amp. Carver C1 Control amp and M1.5t power amp. There is no subwoofer output. I am feeding the sub with the 2nd set of "pre-out" RCA's from the C1.

Can you control the output level on this set of outputs?

They are controlled identically to the primary set of pre-outs that feed the power amp. They are both variable via the master volume control of the control amp.

You could hook a pair of speaker wire from the amp to the sub's speaker level input. This way, the Carver's fake tubey should would be reproduced by the subwoofer.

Also, 90hz does not gurantee that it is 90hz, so measure your speaker's rolloff point with some narrow band pink noise or warble tone, and adjust the crossover's measured rolloff point so that they would combine to a flat response.
