HELLO COMMUNITY! :)

I am a novice sound person and have never heard of Hsu research before this posting. I recently came across an ad on Gateway.com (the company who sells computers) that shows that they are rebranding a home theatre sound solution using Hsu Research components. The link is below and its Gateway product KAS-103.

I am seriously considering on purchasing this setup as it would be my first home theatre sound system. Can any of you give me some feedback on what I should be looking out for? any gotchas? Does anyone know about what brand of DVD player is accompanied with this gateway deal? Where can I get the dimensions on the subwoofer they list? If you have any info (and I mean ANY!) that would help a novice buyer like me make a educated choice, do please let me know. Thanks! :) - tigers901

Hi,

My name is Sasha and I work at Hsu Research. To start of with some background: we manufacture some of the best subwoofers we know of! The Gateway system has come together quite quickly, and there has hardly been time to talk about the details of the system.

The fist thing that is unique about the system is that the subwoofers were designed by Dr. Hsu using the same "forumula" we use on our bigger VTF-2 and VTF-3 models. If you surf around the site, you will see that our subs have received a praise for their honest engineering, accuracy, and performance.

The second thing about the KAS-203 is the Ventriloquist center channel. Unlike the vast majority of home theater systems, there are not the gaping holes in the frequency response due to a special crossover network in the center channel. The smaller KAS-103 does not have this Ventiloquist feature.

Most small satellite systems that use micro sized cubes that cannot produce the upper bass--the same frequencies that the human voice is transmitted on. This makes dialogue less realistic, and much worse than actual movie theater sound. The Ventriloquist center channel changes this by sharing the bass duty from left and right channels, for sound on par with the movies.

The receiver is made by an they folks behind about 30% of the world's receivers.

If you join our mailing list (on this page: http://www.hsuresearch.com ) we will email you more detailed information by Friday.
