Hello,

I recently moved and I am having issues with my TN1220 on my new hardwood floors that I did not experience on the carpet at my old place.

First off, I am still using the spikes that came with the sub, which could be part of the problem. The problem is, when the sub is really putting out some bass it starts to make an audible knocking sound against the hardwood. If I pick the sub up off the floor, the noise stops.

What I need to know is, what is the best way to place the sub on the hardwood to prevent this noise? Should I look into putting it on a heavy stone slab or maybe not using the spikes and using something else?

Any help would be appreciated.

My good friend uses 16mm chair rubbers over the end of the three spikes to stop it tap dancing on his wood floor.

For hardwood floors, Dr. Hsu rocommends the rubber caps that go over chair ends. They can be found at Home Depot.

I found some "Nail-On Heavy Duty Felt Pads" at Home Depot that work great. They're 1" felt pads with a hollow nail (like a metal circle) on the top... the TN1220 spikes fit right into the hollow nail. I couldn't find black ones, these are beige but I colored them black with a Sharpie. You can get them at Home Depot.

Shepherd Hardware Products makes them as part of their "Felt Gard Plus" line. Part 9934HS.

Stevetrash,

I just came across your suggestion, and picked up some of the felt pads exactly as you described. When I was in Home Depot to pick them up, I noticed that they also make a larger diameter version than the part number you indicated, so I went ahead and purchased the wider pads, figuring more damping for the vibration, the better. I just tried it out on some music, and the effects were dramatic. Much nicer. Thank you so much for the perfect suggestion adn solution!!

Apparently, the spikes on my TN-1220 had actually worn holes in my old rubber foot rests, and were actually touching the tile floors. I am guessing that might account for why the TN has been making such bad knocking sounds lately on loud bass tracks... Guess I need to pick up War of the Worlds to try that soundtrack out again...

Thanks again,

Pat
