I will try here to get an answer after numerous emails to HSU Tech support with NO response!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought my sub June 2004 through the Canadian dealer and have noticed that when I turn the volume control, there is a noise that is amplified. What is the problem? In general, everything works fine except for a noisy volume pot! I am not really interested in sending eveything back and paying all that money for a fix that is probably simple.

I would appreciate an answer after all the times I have tried to communicate with the company!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe I can help. Mine does the same thing, but only when there is a cable attached. If I disconnect the sub cable the amp is dead silent. I switched cables and it's barely noticable now. If you disconnect the cable is the amp/volume control silent?

I tried it and it still does it. I am hoping someone at the tech department will read this because I have tried all other ways of communicating with them and never got an answer. I hope this is not typical!!? I realise I took a chance buying an Internet sub but after 2 months of trying to find an answer, someone HAS to be getting the emails I sent!

Before I contct the Canadian dealer, I wanted to hear from the company about this first as maybe they could suggest to me what to do to fix it on my own.

I think a Canadian distributor (MrTristan) posts on this board - why don't you send him a message.

I tried that as well and would really like to hear from HSU about this first since they build them.

Not really happy with their tech support so far!

why don't you give them a call instead of emailing. last time their email system was down and i did not get a response email and looks like they might be going thru the same problem now.

Try giving them a call(1-800-554-0150). I sent a couple of emails and had no luck so I called and asked the rep if I could speak to Dr. Hsu, and was immediately put in touch with the man himself. Really nice guy too.

E-mail is a great modern method of communication, but only if nothing go's wrong and the right person reads it. My previous experience working thru problems always ends up with a phone call directly to the manufacturers technical genius. Its gives you a much more instant response time, which in turn means faster answers to your problems.

Having owned a few of these great Hsu subwoofers over the years, the one undeniable fact is that Dr Hsu stands frmly behind all of his products, and if there is an issue he will resolve it asap. However having brought this in Canada the local importer would be your first and best option to resolve or replace the amp. If they cant solve the problem I am sure Dr Hsu will sort it out.

mine does a similiar thing but only way up on the volume scale well beyond what i would reasonably set the sub.

***one thing that should be noted. i tried sending hsu multiple emails with no response but later realized the address for support listed under contacts was wrong. i filled out the form on there site to send an email and got a next day response. dont know if this problem has been corrected but after filling out the form and submitting my problem the email was sent to a different address than the one listed for tech support***

That's what I figured too. Either it's an email getting sent to the wrong address, or the email is getting filtered out somehow.

yes i found that filling out the box and submitting the email here http://www.hsuresearch.com/support/index.php?id=34 yielded a next day response after multiple emails to the techsupport address listed under the contact us link. i'd give that a try if you dont want to give them a call.

good luck with your issue

Well....................I have tried all new avenues and have decided to give up! I think that HSU service is not up to standard and will bring my unit to my local shop to have a look! So much for warantee!!!!!! I have tried contacting the Canadian distributor numerous times without an answer! All I want is advice as to what to do or what the problem is...............THAT IS ALL!

If I can get it fixed at a resonable price, I will sell it and buy a make that repects client service! If there are mistakes on the web site then fix them and stop sending me return emails stating I will get an answer within 2 business days after it has been about 60!

I have been patient enough.

Why don't you call Hsu Research right now? They are open. Tell them to put you thru to Dr. Hsu.

1-714-666-9260

Does the Canadian distributor have a phone number too?

This is the phone number on Hsu's website for the Canadian dealer:

1-800-387-9101

The phone number for USA callers is said to be this:

1-800-554-0150

The Canadian Distributor said they would check it out and call me back! That was 30 days ago!

I am not calling long distance from*@#! [censored]Canada to California to try and talk to a man that is probably very busy. I am not mad but fed up with trying to find and answer to a simple question. That is what this site is for in the first place. Maybe talking this way will yield a result or two!

Call them long distance, ask to be connected to Dr. Hsu immediately, and ask him to call you back. I wouldn't doubt he will do it.

What is your phone number? :D

And try calling the Canada guy again too.

Danman...aren't you the guy that just got some posts deleted on AVS?

It is a simple phone call to Hsu to get help. There is no way you have tried all avenues.....if you call them right now someone will pick up the phone.

I have read nothing but positive posts about the Canadian distributor.....something is not right.

Since I am local...PM me your email address and I will call Hsu for you and have him search for your email. Heck...I will even call the Canadian distributor.

And the answer to your question may not be simple...so it will take some diagnoses.

danman,
I have two threads on this forum so I know ALL to well what's it's like to be frustrated with a sub problem and having a hard time getting my problem resolved. I also learned what a great person Peter Marcks is and how great the other people that frequent this forum are(you guys know who you are). My problem was very frustrating, but due to Peter and the members here who kept supporting me and my problem and telling me to hang in there, a solution will come, my problem was finally resolved.

I'm a perfect example of how a bad situation can make a person very angry, but then when things finally go well your a true Hsu'er.

When things were going bad I had this thread going and you kind of have to jump to the end to see how things finally turned out.
http://www.hsuresearch.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1671

After my problem was resolved I'm in sub heaven like you wouldn't believe in this thread.
http://www.hsuresearch.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1683

So I offer you this that I learned the hard way from the members here. Hang in there a solution will either come from the factory or the members here. Either way your problem will be resolved.

Also I owe the members of this forum big time and your a member so let me know anything I can do to help. Even if it's just making a few phone calls for you to the factory.

Dear Dan,

I am very sorry to hear about your plight :( If you wish, please PM your contact information to me, and I will make sure that Dr. Hsu receives it and in turn speaks directly to you. We will take care of you to the best of our ability!

Again, please accept my sincerest apologies. We are all extremely busy, but at the same time we recognize the need to improve response time. If emails are getting missed or even accidently filtered out, then we need to work towards solving these problems. If response time is slow, then we need to work towards improving this.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and please feel free to let us know if you need any further assistance!

Sincerely,

danman

I received an email yesterday from Dr. Hsu himself and he has confirmed that my explanation of the problem is coming from the volume pot due to dust or something of that nature. I was very happy to have received this and he gave me some advice to what I should do to try to fix it myself and if this does not work, to send the amp back to the Canadian dealer for observation.

I would like to thank HSU for responding and I am very content to not have to send the full unit back. I would aslo like to thank all the responses of positive nature on this forum as they were very helpful.

I am however hoping that I can remedy the problem myself by doing what he tells me to do which is turning the volume control back and forhtąąth many times!

My old Marantz receiver is notorious for the same problem. I went to Rat Shack and picked up an aerosol can of Contact/Control Cleaner and Lubricant and sprayed it into the pots. Quieted them down instantly. You probably want to check with Hsu before doing it just to make sure it's OK to do.

Thanks...........I will send him an email and ask. That may be the way to go because it is not serious.
