Greetings all!

Brand new member here and would like to solicit some advices from the VTF-2 owners. I'm thinking about purchasing a VTF-2 to go with the Yamaha NS-777 main and NS-C444 center speakers.

(1) Should I be concerned about the VTF-2 turning itself off occasionally? If this is even a problem; I just read somewhere in the forum that an owner had some problems with this issue.

(2) I know the VTF-3 can play lower and louder than the VTF-2 but how much of these benefits will I be able to enjoy? In other words, how much materials (both music and HT) are under 20HZ? I'm not concerned with the loudness level since our HT room isn't really large. I'm trying to get educated so please pardon the probably trivial questions.

We use the audio system for HT about 60% of the time. Thanks all in advance for your opinions!

I just bought a VTF-2 and I couldn't be happier. I think the reason for going with a VTF-3 is if your room is larger than average. My VTF-2 has no problems in my 11' by 19' room. Awesome bass!

I've owned the VTF-2 now for about 1.5 years now and have never had it turn off on me while the receiver was on either using it for HT or just music. It is very well built and has worked flawlessly for me since I've had it. My room is only 12x20 and it rattles just about everything on the walls from the T-Rex stomp in Jurassic Park to the attack scene from Pearl Harbor.

It is *very* rare, with an easy fix almost all the time. It happens when some people have subwoofer signals that are very week from their receiver, so to solve the problem they just turn up the subwoofer level on their receiver and turn down the volume on the sub.

Thanks all for your opinons! Apparently it's enough of an issue to warrant Hsu working on a new line of amps. I've already decided on the VTF-2, just waiting for words on the improved batch of amps.

I have had the VTF-2 for a long time and its an awesome sub. After listening its hard to imagine it only has a 10" driver that is powered by only 150w. Its performance is much greater than the specs indicate. Hsu really just need a bypass switch on the back panel for bypassing the auto on/off curcuit.

At the moment that curcuit is what totally dictates your on and off. You have no way to bypass it. I put a minature switch on the back panel of both my VTF-2 and VTF-3 so I could bypass the auto curcuit. The VTF-2 is an amazing bargain that still rocks my smaller room and music system like no other $500 sub could. You will certainly not be disappointed with the VTF-2 unless you have a small ballroom sized room.

Thanks for the reassuring words! From what I've read so far, don't think I can go wrong with a VTF-2, especially with the B-stock models they're offering at $399. Any thought on these? Thanks!

These B-stocks are new, but our builder placed them too close togheter before boxing. The screws on the ports scratched adjacent subwoofers, since they were rubbing up against each other. Some units have small scratches that are hardly noticable, others have larger noticable scratches that could be painted over. One unit had a bent heatsink. We have to wait til mid-August until they can repaint the new A-stock models and assemble them.

The way things are going, these B-stock units are going to be gone before the end of next week.

Also, here is some news:

The VTF-2 is now one of the top 20 most popular subwoofers selling in Yahoo Shopping, based on the popularity measurement on Yahoo Shopping! Yahoo measures how many subwoofers are selling through stores in their system. Other stores include Crutchfield, Etronics, J & R. The HSU VTF-2 is right behind the Klipches and JBLs! Pretty good considering the VTF-2 costs more than most of them.

I can't link to the exact page, but if you follow this link and browse to results 11-20, you'll see (http://advanced.search.shopping.yahoo.com/shop/cspeakers_subwoofer?x=1&manufacturer=&t=browse)
