I recently bought the VT-12 with the STF-1. I also purchased the Onkyo TXSR502 6.1 system from 6ave.com but apparently they were out so they sent me the TXSR503 which is a 7.1 system. I should be happy about this since it's an upgrade, but it has thrown a wrench in the works because now I need another speaker. Yesterday I purchased another satellite speaker for the VT-12 system (the VT-254).
My question is: what is the best configuration for my room layout and dimensional size? I have attached a rough schematic of my den with what I'm thinking may be good speaker placement, but I'm unsure. I'm unable to attach the front L/R speakers to the entertainment center because there is a door approximately one foot to the left of the unit and I know if the speaker is placed there it will inevitably be in harms way. I want to place the front L/R speakers in the corners of the room but this will mean their placement will be 16 feet apart. I read somewhere where the placement should be between 6' and 9'. Will this distance diminish the quality of the sound?
I am planning on installing all satellites with wall mounts. Also, at this point I'm planning on placing front center channel and the front satelites slightly above ear level angled down. The front center channel will sit above the tv. My primary concern is the distance of the two front L/R speakers and the 9' height of the rear speakers. Overall, is there a better placement than what I have shown in the schematic? Also, what angle, relative to the floor should the rear R/L and rear center channel be in? I'm unable to set the rear center channel speakers behind the couch any distance because the couch will set next to the same wall. Basically the rear center channel speakers are going to be right above the couch 9' from the floor. Should I point the rear center channel speakers directly down toward the couch or should I angle them in another position? Is there a better configuration height or placement wise?
Thanks in advance for any help!
