Hello, I am just about to pull the trigger on the VT-12/STF-3 combo but wanted to make sure this was not overkill. I am currently living in an apartment with a small living room, but will be moving to a house that will certainly be larger within the next year. Therefore I am considering the the STF-3 to allow for more flexibility in the future.
Could the STF-3 be too much for my small (10x12) living area?
Thank you
Bart

Bart you can't have too much sub especially if you're planning on having a larger room soon. You can always just back off the voulume if the sub is too loud, but if don't get enough sub to start with then you'll be upgrading real soon.
How large do you think the room might be when you move?

There's no such thing as too much sub. There is such a thing as turn down the volume on that sub. Use Video Essentials and a SPL meter to tune all of your speakers so that the sound is balanced.
I have a VTF-3 MK2 and the amplifier is at 20% power. I suspect the VTF-3 could easily anchor a large 300 seat movie theater on its own.

Thank you both for the replies.. I think I will go with the STF-3.
Thanks

Yes, there definitely is such a thing as too much sub... it's when you have so many subs that you can no longer fit yourself into your HT room. Only then do you have too much sub ;-)

No such thing. Headroom is a great thing.
My theater room is now a bit over 2000cu ft, and a pair of TN1220HO subs are what I've got for bass. Effortless bass is a good thing, and like others said, you've got a gain control on the amp, so use it. ;)
