I just added a VTF-3 to my existing setup: AVR 8000 (cross-overs can be set at 40, 60, 80, or 100) receiver and fronts are ADS L980s which can go down to 37 Hz, ± 3dB (these are old speakers, back in the day when the CD was new-fangled and HT a gleam in people's eyes). The setup is in a large living room with 20 ft ceilings and open exits.

Q1: If this was your setup, how would you have the cross-over and fronts setup (currently I have it at 40 on the receiver to match the mains and have them set as large)?

Q2: (the simpler one) - I picked a RS Gold subwoofer cable - does it make a difference if I let one end of the Y dangle, or should I connect them both to the VTF-3 instead of only connecting at the mono connection?

I would play around with the settings to see which setting sounds good to you. For me, I would set the speakers to small and try the crossover at 60hz.

Connecting the Y to both inputs would be no problem. Nice to have nothing dangling.

Stew,

If you can set the crossover for the front speakers alone, 70 or 80 Hz is preferable. It takes more of a load off of the main amp and speakers.
