My quest for an STF-2 on my budget seems to be futile; I'm considering going wiht an STF-1 which can be had within my budget, but I'd like to know what the impact of having a sub that is undersized for my room first.

My room is: 2738 cubic feet, and I have a tiny kitchen that is attached to it that I can't seal off with a door. So I really should be going with the STF-2 but I don't think it's going to happen.

Bumping my own thread.

No one can explain the impact of having an undersized sub for my room size?

It will probably leave bass nulls, for starters. That is, dead zones in the room where you won't be able to really hear the sub. Placement can go only so far in correcting these areas.

What is your primary reason for buying a sub? Is it for HT or music? If it's for music, it should be efficient unless you listen to your music at high level. If it's for HT, then you will risk clipping the subwoofer at higher volume due to your sub's lack of power to generate enough output at higher level without audible distortion. In simple terms, think of bringing a nascar vehicle to a formula-one racetrack. Sure, you can race that nascar at the formula-one track, but the question is what results can be achieve with such vehicle?

If it's possible, I would consider hold your purchase until you save some more money for a more suitable subwoofer for your space. If you can't wait, I would advise getting another sub within your budget for the time being. Keep saving more money, sell that sub and get a VTF-3 Mk. 3 and you'll be quite happy for a while.
