How good is the magnetic sheilding? I want to have my computer and monitor right next to the subwoofer and I need to know how good the magnetic sheilding is. I don't want to lose valuable data on my PC.

Cheers!

Here are some facts regarding shielding:

1) The VTF-2 has an extra magnet to counteract the magnetic waves (called a "bucking" magnet), so it is shielded for close placement to TVs. You probably would still give it a foot or so, and if discoloration occurs power cycle the CRT monitor or hit the degauss button.

2) The VTF-3 is not shielded, and the TNs have the bucking magnet but the overall force is still to high for close placement to TVs.

3) Erasing your harddrive is another matter entirely. You could probably place a bare harddrive on the top of an unshielded VTF-3 and not erase it. Shielding is more about preventing the discoloration of CRT monitors and TVs.

But don't place your computer on the subwoofer because the vibrations will slow down your hard drive performance, and possibly reduce its life!

Thank you for your prompt and complete answer. I have my VTF-2 subwoofer in a very tight location crammed with other stuff so now I have a bit more piece of mind. Great subwoofer BTW - it took me a while to find a good placement and setup for it, but I really like it. I'll have to share my enthausim on audioreview.com, where I orginally found out about the HSU.

Cheers!

I have my computer (a shuttle small form factor pc) perched right atop my sub. I put some rubber pads under it to cancle out the vibration but thus far no shortness of harddrive life as of yet.!!
