Hi all,

I am very happy to announce that the horn in-wall speakers are finally on their way here, so we should have them in stock within ~ 3-4 weeks time.

Thank you to everyone for their patience!

Pete,

Great news! Any deals for customers that have been waiting and anticipating them. I have been patiently waiting for almost 2 years. I am excited and hope they will be worth the wait...I'm sure they will be.

Yup, I'm also extremely excited. Any chance you could post some specs, perhaps how much space in the wall they will need so we can start mapping out our spaces? :)

Good question Brian...I will talk to Dr. Hsu about having an introductory price for the first month or so...

Hey Ddavidson,

The grille is white, but also can be painted in other finishes by the customer (the grille material is metal).

P.S. The in-wall speakers are in the house :) I hope to have an update for you later today or by tomorrow.

For my small bedrooms, I've been thinking about inwall speakers but would probably need an in-wall STF-1 or STF-2 to make a good system.

The HIW-1 Horn In-Wall Speakers are now available for purchase!

Price is better than I originally anticipated, and we are offering quantity discounts too.

Note that the HIW-1 speakers have removeable and paintable metal grilles.

Oh yeah, one more thing, the in-wall speakers look much nicer in person than in the picture!

Enjoy :)

Good question! We will certainly consider this...

OK, the in-wall update is good, but... what about the HB1 mk3 speakers? I was soooo close in pulling the trigger a month ago when you had them on sale. But, the way the system works is when you buy an item, the new one is on the way. And considering these have been out for 2 years I think, plus with CES2010 around the corner, I think a new version will be coming out? Any info possibly? Problem is I do not want to spend my hard earned money if something new is coming. Unless you guys have some type of return policy or something else...

I have a couple questions regarding the new in-wall speakers.

1) Can an HIW-1 be used as a Center Channel speaker? Obviously the HC-1 MK2 Horn Center Channel was designed for this purpose, but could a single in-wall also work?

2) Can HIW-1's be used as in-ceiling speakers, or only as in-wall?

Thanks!

No worries, we won't have an HB-1 MK3 anytime soon. It may be years before anything is changed. Note that the current HB-1 MK2 has only been out for ~1-1.5 years.

We do have a 30 day in-home trial period...

For question 1), yes, provided that the in-wall speaker is oriented vertically, then it can be used very effectively as a center channel speaker.

For question 2), yes, the HIW-1 can be used as in-ceiling speakers too!

Hi, any plans to add a center channel in-wall speaker to the HIW-1 series?

With the recommendation of vertical alignment, it won't fit the blocking in my wall since I set it for a "traditional' horizontal orientation.

Thanks,
Ron

Hi Ron,

At the moment there are no immediate plans to add a horn in-wall center speaker. That said, there are a couple potential options:

1) Use an HC-1 MK2 as front center

or

2) Use an HIW-1 horn in-wall speaker on it's side as the front center (with horn rotated 90 degrees).

If option 1) is not realistic, then it is still better to use the HIW-1 on it's side (with horn rotated), then to not use it at all when setting up a multi-channel audio system. A phantom front center will not work well up front because the in-wall speakers cannot be toed in.

Pete, thanks for the info. What does it take to rotate the horn and does that violate the warranty?

Thanks,
Ron

Hi Ron,

Rotating the horn is very easy, just remove the screws around the four outer edges of the horn, turn the horn 90 degrees (it is usually best to rotate in the direction where the internal speaker wire gets pulled as little as possible), and then put the screws back in. This will not void the warranty. We would be happy to do this at the factory too if requested.

I am extremely happy with my HSU VTF-3 MK3 subwoofer, and still need to get some proper speakers to compliment it. My wife prefers that I eventually get some in-wall speakers, and I may be able to get away with a conventional in-room center channel. So I am looking into the HSU HIW-1 speakers for my fronts and rears as I will probably stick with a 5.1 system.

I had an earlier post asking about using these as in-ceiling speakers, which Pete said can be done. But with these being 'in' speakers, I will not really be able to 'demo' these in my room without cutting holes in drywall, and determining placement, and installing as in-wall vs in-ceiling. I say this, because I like a full, loud, but clear sound, and my sub will handle all the dirty work. My problem is my room.

What is the recommended room size for these speakers?
The room that these would potentially go in is a 'great room' (family room & kitchen), and is a total of about 24 feet x 20 feet in dimension, with 10 foot ceiling height. With this room size, will these speakers do the job?

Will you be selling the in-wall in a 3 piece set for a center?
