I'm new to HT and starting with a Pany xr55 digital amp, the STF-2 and eventually a set of 5 Ascend speakers.

I'm thinking of putting surround speakers on 40" stands about midway between TV and rear wall B. I could mount center rear on rear wall B about 5 or 6' high. There is no wall mount area on wall a or c.
I could pull couch away from rear wall, and place front speakers closer to front wall, but I need to keep 9' between screen and seating area for best viewing of edtv screen, the pixels are too large if you sit close.

I'll try the STF-2 with my current NHT 1.3 satelites until the Ascends arrive. Should be a good match. I think I can cut the low frequencies at 80hz to the satelites, but I'll have to see what the pany xr-55 amp lets me do. Do you know what setting I should use, I think I set the front speakers to small, even though they play down to 52hz +/- 3db.

Any input about successful set up is appreciated. I
filled out support form and sent that in too.

Thanks, it seems like this will be a lot of fun!

Welcome to the party, Scott!

I'm just like you - a newbie with all sorts of new toys to play with (Ascend/Hsu combo driven by the Panny).

In the Panny, you go into the advanced settings menu ("Setup 2") and change the "Filter" value to set your crossover setting. The lowest it lets you go is 80 Hz. The factory setting is 100. When I first hooked up the Ascends I had them set to "Small" with no Sub attached (yet...) and with a x-over of 100 you can imagine my disappointment at the sound. Once I figured out what was up I switched the setting to "Large" and the room came alive!

Now I've got the STF-2 connected and its even better as the Bass is now excellently represented. You need to set "Subwoofer = Yes" and your speakers to "Small" in the Panny menus and you'll be in business.
