View Full Version : My new STF-2

I just got it yesterday and am busy lifting it all over my place to find a sweet spot. I tried the 2 locations recommended by Dr. Hsu. Even so they are only a couple of feet apart it required adjustment. This was using the AVR's built-in test tone feature and my "husband syndrom ears". LOL
Now I'm trying something else. I'm playing pink noise while having the sub in front of the sofa in my preferred listening position. I'm walking around the room trying to locate the best bass response. To me that indicates the proper placement for the best bass at my listening position once I place the sub into that location. Is this a good way to do it? I have access to AVIA but not, or don't have, an SPL meter.
Thanx for any advice and/or suggestions.

Just got done listening to MOUSSORGSKY 'Pictures at an Exhibition' on Telarc CD-80042. :D
Now I've got to play the ELP version. :p
After that it'll be some DVD.

I am by no means an expert, but I don't think Pink noise produces frequencies low enough to help you set up your sub, you should use music or movies with low and sustained sections of bass or one of the setup dvds like AVIA.
You should also place your sub in your exact sitting position (if possable) when trying to find the sweet spot.
Good luck.

Everybody has a different ear. All I can tell you is that I like what I'm hearing.

Good point. But I'm too lazy to move the sofa. That would create different room interactions. Placing it on the sofa would not work IMHO as the cushions would interfere with the floor loaded design of it. Therefore right in front and about 3 ft down from my ears should be good enough. A friend of my is willing to loan me his AVIA disk. May have to call his wife, his memory, so that he won't forget. :D

I used a piece of plywood to sit it on when on the sofa but it probably isn't that important.
You have one awsome sub there, I've had mine for about a year now and it still amazes me.
