I am thnking about purchasing the VTF-2. My room size is 16x20 carpeted, and has walls on 3 sides and open to the kitchen on one side. Is this room too big for the VTF-2? Any advise? Thanks

While room acoustics is very complex, we do have a rule of thumb about the VTF-2 and room size. We recommend it for rooms up to 16 x 20 for loud listening.

However, it also depends on how loud the material you listen to is and where you place the subwoofer. Close placement (also known as "nearfield" placement") allows you to use the VTF-2 in a much bigger room. Our subs produce only the onmidirectional, non localizable notes they are suppost to play when they are configured correctly, and have very little unwanted port noise, cabinet noise, or woofer surround noise. So, they can be placed very close to the listener. The overall volume can be turned down so neighbors are less disturbed. You don't have to be rude and loud to use a subwoofer.

For more specific advice, please fill out our placement recommendation form which will give us all the information we need:

The spec sheet of the VTF-2 (i.e. 150w ~ 10" driver etc) doesn't tell the full story. Also there are far too many variables in both your personal taste and room setups/acoustics to be able to nail down what "room size" a specific sub will suit.
By reading some of the reviews and comparing its output to other known subwoofers which have been tested by the same reviewer (i.e. TN, Keele, Hardesty) will give you a much better idea of how the sub performs. The VTF-2 is certainly no let down, especially when you look at its low $500 price tag. It is a great audio bargain.
