So, I just received my VTF-3 MK-3 today. I was a bit nervous not being able to listen to the sub before I purchased it. HOLY CRAP!!!!!!! I couldn't believe how big it was!! I must admit I wasn't fully expecting that! However, I soon forgot about the size the second I turned it on and put in Transformers and watched the opening scene!! I am completely blown away!! I have never heard a sub-woofer go so low before. The build quality is absolutely excellent, I am very satisfied with the fit and finish. I just wanted to say THANK YOU so much HSU Research for engineering such a great product! You have a very satisfied customer and will recommend to all my friends!! :D

Thank you so much Chris, I am thrilled that you like the subwoofer!
Are you running the subwoofer in max extension mode right now?
Thanks again
Sincerely,

Yes, I am and it is still plenty loud for my room. So, I haven't even considered trying the max output mode at this point! The only way I could ever see myself doing that is when I get a new place and have a larger room.
Just got done watching The Dark Knight, it was a completely different experience!! I now have zero desire to go the movie theater!! ;)

were you considering any other subs before deciding on this one? im considering getting the same one as well...what pushed you over the edge in deciding on the vtf3.3? its kinda hard for me to buy this sub without being able to try it out.

I always enjoy threads like these. Reminds me of the first time I heard a HSU sub in person.

Although you didn't ask me, I figured I'd throw in my 2 cents. My first real sub ( or so I thought) was a velodyne ct120. I spent 600 bucks on it IIRC. This was many years ago, shortly after that model velodyne was introduced. I loved the heck out of that sub. One day I went with my dad to a friend of his house to go listen to some music. He told me his buddy picked up a new sub for his stereo setup, so we wanted to go have a listen. This was the first time I was to ever hear of HSU.
When we walked in, I was shocked to see the sub (TN-1220 w/ 500 watt HSU amp on the shelf next to it). This was also the first time I had seen a cylinder home sub. When we spun the first cd up, and the first bit of low frequency came through that tube, my jaw hit the floor. I had never seen anything like it. I say seen because, I felt it, and saw my pant legs moving, but heard nothing. I had no idea a home sub could produce bass so deep it was inaudible but still had the power to rattle YOU haha. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't just the incredible power and depth of the sub, it was the most natural sounding sub I had come across. Going back to the velodyne, it just sounded boomy to me. I knew I needed to make a change.
Shortly after the velo was sold to a buddy, and I ordered my first HSU. That was a vtf3-mk2. Years ago as I was moving out of my parents house I sold that sub to my dad, who still loves it. Started going through bass withdrawals, and looked up HSU's current offerings. At the time, the 3.3 had just come out in the new smooth box finish. Shot a few PM's to Pete, and the rest is history.
This sub is definitely staying with me!

Ron, I was actually considering several other subs before I decided on this one. Mainly, Martin Logan, SVS, etc. But in the end the price to performance ratio just seemed so much better with the HSU stuff. So I figured why not! At the very worst I wouldn't like it and send it back for a refund and be out some money on shipping. After all that's cheaper then me buying a plane ticket to California to hear one in person. If I had to make the decision again I would do the exact same thing!

john and chriso...thanks for the input. good story john!
i was at bestbuy the other day to hear what they had in their magnolia section of the store. i was shown a couple subs, including a martin logan, def tech, and a klipsch that all fell within the price range of the vtf3.3. the logan and def tech both sounded decent, considering their tiny footprint, but after leaving that store, i have even higher hopes for the vtf3.3.
