Yes, this is one of the subs that started it all for Definitive Research (later changed to Hsu Research). Unfortunately the years have not been good to the 10" drivers in these subs--they both are dead and need replacement. From what I understand, 10" drivers are substantially better than what they were just a few years ago...so needing a replacement may be a good thing.

My question is, can I just take any 10" subwoofer and put them in the cylindrical enclosures? Specifically, I had my eye on a pair of Dayton Loudspeaker Titanic II 10" drivers from Parts express. I have NO knowledge of speaker design so don't know what the laundry list of specs is supposed to mean. Alternatively, and much less expensive, are a pair of Kicker CompVR 10" drivers although being for car audio, I'm thinking they are meant for small enclosures which the HSW-10's are not.

Can someone help?

BTW, I bought the HSW10 in college when I didn't have a lot of money--well, I still don't so hopefully I can resuscitate them!

You can't just use any woofer and have them sound good. Not by a long shot.

Give us a call and we can sell you a replacement driver for a very good price. Our number 1-800-554-0150.

Well, I just was asking one of the tech support folks at Parts Express and gave them the specs of the enclosure. They tell me that the Dayton Titanic II 10" would be pretty much perfect for the HRSW-10 enclosure, based on the specs of the driver and the dimensions that I gave them. I guess only time will tell since I just got them in and will be installing this weekend. The other thing is, I've heard it said that subwoofer drivers are a step up from what they were 8-10 years ago so I am actually looking for an improvement and not just OEM replacements.

I didn't actually know that you carried replacements for the venerable old HRSW-10...

Anyways, thanks for the response. I wish all mfg had forums and company reps reading the posts. Kudos.
