Your recommended setup with a receiver is to run the sub-out to the right (mono) input on the VTF-3. I purchased a new cable and my Tweeter salesman told me I'd get better sound and have more crossover options by connecting to both the right and left sub inputs using the Y-connector that comes with the cable. Is this true? Is there any difference? Would I change any settings? Will this damage the sub in any way?

No...the salesman doesn't know what he is talking about.

The only thing that might happen is a slight gain in output do to the summing of the signals.

The special Y connectors make no difference in sound quality in our book. A tad louder, but its better just to turn up the volume a little than spend lots of money on accessories.

The salesman was probably just trained by his instructors that that is how audio works. Some cable companies send special instructors to the stores (or the training managers) to teach the virtues of their products. I don't think he meant anything by it.
