I'm about to purchase an HSU sub (either VTF-2 or STF-3). I'm very excited, but also very concerned. The sub will be placed in striking distance of my 2 year old son. Ouch! The fact that the Sub is downfiring and the woofer isn't staring him in the eye gives me a little piece of mind, but the fact that he could put things in the firing ports or mess with the settings in the back, frankly scares the hell out of me. The only other speakers in his line of fire will be older Polk bookshelf's on stands which he doesn't really mess with now (which makes me think he might leave the sub alone) and I could care less about the Polks.

Does anyone have any childproofing ideas or things that he could do that would really screw up the Sub, like mess with certain settings on the back or the firing ports? Thanks.

I'll let you all know what it's like watching the Wiggles in 5.1

If you mean the VTF-3, it is front-firing. The rosewood model is downfiring.

Regarding the back and switches, consider this from the manual:

WARNING: Do not have both ports open and have the (EQ) switch at the 20Hz position as this may damage the subwoofer and void your warranty.

If you could wedge the subwoofer between a couch and a corner, it would reduce the chance your son could reach the back and fiddle with the controls. The most important control would probably be the volume knob, which you could tape over. Just an idea.
