Is anyone running the VTF-3 MK 2 with the Yamaha RXV-2500? I'd like to get one of these subs, but want to make sure my system will be able to connect to it. What I mean is that I only have two front speakers (Paradigm Monitor 11's) and I'd like to add a sub. I spend most of my time listening in stereo mode to music. If I add the sub to the line out on the receiver, will the sub work? Or will it only work in one of the surround sound modes?

Anyone that can shed some light on this issue would be my hero.

jason,

the sub will work with that reciever. i downloaded the manual and looked. what you want to do is plug the sub into the the subwoofer preout. which is located just left of where you connect the surround speakers. (manual page 11 #14 in diagram). dont put the sub in the multichannel input thats different. the sub will work in all modes including stereo. hope that helps

I have a similar setup with a Yamaha RX-V2500, Paradigm Monitor 11s and HSU VTF-3 Mk 2. The VTF-3 is connected to the Yamaha Sub Pre-Out jack using the HSU Subwoofer Interconnect cable. I'm using a separate power amp to drive the Monitor 11s. The VTF-3 integrates seamlessly with the Monitor 11s.

The Sub Out is set to Subwoofer, Crossover set to 80 Hz and all speakers set to Small. I've tried Sub Out to Both and different crossover frequencies but the above setting works best. Both sends the full range to the Front Speakers even when set to Small. The result was bass cancellation not reinforcement! If you set the Front Speakers to Large (as you probably do now) only the LFE information is sent to the sub which is nothing in 2-Channel Stereo!

The VTF-3 is currently located directly behind the couch about 1" from the wall, centered between the Front speakers and set to Maximum Extension 20 Hz mode. The result is both excellent non-directional bass and high WAF (The box is hidden)!

I recommend the Avia DVD and the Radio Shack Sound Pressure Level (SPL) meter to calibrate the sub with your system. You can use YPAO which actually does a good job but only goes down to 62.5 Hz. YPAO is a good starting point while Avia and the SPL meter allow you to fine tune the system. Also resist the urge to turn up the sub so you can hear it. Trust Avia and the meter. When bass is called for you will get it in Spades!

Hope this helps!
