While I could be directing this question over at AV123, I will research it here because HSU is not connected.
First off, I bought a VTF 3 MK 2 back in 95, love it.
but purchased a Rocket ULW-10 for my daughter and her husband back in 06.( they required a very small unit )
THey moved into a new home, and the sub has a hum. Apparently, although I did not know this, it has been humming for some time.
I will go through all the suggestion made here, and over at AV 123 to fix it if it is a ground loop problem.
If it is not, but is an issue with the amp, will an Amp purchased through HSU fit ?

Hi Bmo,
Sometimes the hum could be a ground loop hum, where one can use a cheater plug to help fix that. Alternatively, it could be a bad rca cable, so it wouldn't hurt to try a different cable.
I don't recommend using any Hsu Research amp for this subwoofer, as the cutout size may be different, and the Hsu amps have custom settings specifically for Hsu subwoofers.
Sincerely,

I also had a ULW-10 sub and it acquired a hum last year (2008). It would come and go but finally around December it wouldn't stop. Since it was out of warranty I just assumed there was nothing to be done and I gave it away and bought an STF-2 (which I am very happy with).
Now I have heard about some big problem AV123 had with defective amps and I believe the ULW-10 was one of the ones affected (I think for sure the 15" models were affected). Last week I wrote to them but haven't received any reply yet. If you still have your unit and the receipt or they have a record of your purchase I would suggest contacting them and finding out if there is something they can do for you.

I had the same problem and just fixed it by swapping out some caps. See this: http://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=6751&highlight=onix (http://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=6751&highlight=onix)

I had two 10's and honestly loved the subs. Both amps finally went bad and after av 123 sent me two replacement amps that were totally different(and I did not have the time or inclination to rebuild both) I sent the pair back for partial credit. Have a MKlll turbo now. No regrets. By the way, all the original amps were defective.
