Well its been 4yrs since I purchased my two HSU VTF3 MKII subs and I must say they still sound fantastic but after reading the many new offering in subwoofer technologies I was wondering if its time to abandon them for something new.

Now I am not saying they don't hit hard or that they don't sound good but companies have come out with quality subs low to high in price with a lot of bang for the buck ie... JL Audio (high) AV123 (low) and many more because of the economy I can but will not spend what I would have a few years ago a ULS-15 single would have to do and JL Audio unless used is not even a thought. The VTF 3.3 in pairs is a good price range but I am not sure they would offer that much of a night and day difference than what I have.

The ULS-15 in pairs because of price is out, also $1300 is about my limit but hear is my question, is what I have that much less than what is out now in other words am I going to hear a night and day difference or can I maybe tweak a little and get close results, reading these forums is not good when you have the audiophile sickness as the minute you buy something new its old when you pick it up, or the UPS man delivers it I have chased the upgrade bug before because a company has changed a model number or its 125 watts instead of 90 watts only to get a marginal diffrence at best and $7000 dollars later for my current crop of amps still don't think I hear a $5000 diffrence from my $2000 amp.

because most good products nowadays are ID I am at the mercy of the ears of you guys for guidance (what happened to the turbo option ?) with the Velodyne SMS-1 in the mix I think I get a decent result but yes I have the upgrade bug, So will a ULS-15 single out gun my current subs or maybe a pair of AV123 MFW's by the way because of bad press that option is not very attractive from a business stand point or would a used JL Audio f113 or f112 be better in performance again in single unit operation than a ULS-15 thanks guys and HAPPY NEW YEARS !!!! :)

I started out with dual 3.3's and dual MBM's 2 years ago and have had upgraduis hit me and I am now up to 3 MFW's and 1 Conquest. I have had a few subs in between these setups and I can say with a certainty the the SQ of HSU can not be beat. Stay with what you have or discuss with Pete about the ULS-15 in your room. The only other sub that I would recommend would be the Seaton Submersive (dual 15" drivers). Seaton has commented that his sub and 2 ULS-15's are as close to each other for SQ as any two subs can be. Now if you want crazy output and subs that go BOOM with out any good SQ, there are several popular brands out there. Just check the forums but remember that this can get real expensive in a hurry. Chasing a few extra DB's really isn't worth the price of some subs and in the end it is about SQ and your sanity.

At $2000 to $2400 dollars for one submersive It is not a consideration.

On that budget, you are not going to get something enormously better than two VTF3.2's. I am guessing that two VTF3.2's will stomp on a single ULS as far as sheer output goes. The ULS should beat them in any other respect though. If you want something that will significantly outperform what you have now, you should save a bit more money and look into subwoofers that can achieve big SPL's at at very deep frequencies.

The only way to get more bang than what you have is instead of starting from scratch, built up on you existing system. I believe the 2.3 are similar in capability to the 3.2, so you can get 1 or 2 more 2.3's and run all 3 or 4 of them all in ME mode.

Its just like why throw out that dedicated 2ch amp when 5 ch requirement came around and it was the in thing to get a 5ch amp, then 7ch came around and it the 5ch just didn't cut it. The 2ch probably sounded better than any of these multi-channel, even though it might be an non-HT thing to have.
