I stuck this in the bottom of another thread but decided to elevate it to it's own thread because I expect I will need to make a decision shortly and would like peoples thoughts.

I'm in a situation where I may made need to make a decision. My TN1220 driver is now with HSU and I may need to purchase a new one (assuming one is available). I may be in a situation where either I need a new sub or will need to decide if I should suck it up and pony up the difference between a new driver and a new sub.

I've searched and haven't found any recent comparisons between the 1220 and the VTF-3 MK2 and the new HO.

I have the 250 watt AMP for my 1220

Can anyone shed any light how those 3 subs might compare?

The TN1220 was the flagship before it was discontinued around a year ago....that line included the VTF-3MK2.

If the driver and the amp were the same in the TN1220 and HO, they would be roughly equivalent, but they don't. The HO benefits from the new XBL^2 based driver and newer amp....and if the turbo is used, it will have noticeably more power down low.

If I were you, I would just get a replacement driver and stick with the TN1220.....but if you wanted to upgrade, I think the HO would be the only way to go.

Thanks for the reply. I'm leaning that way if for no other reason then with 2 kids in college extra $'s aren't exactly burning a hole in my pocket.

The HO really does sound nice. The only thing that concerns me is comments I read about the turbo while giving very low Hz's a boost, does so by sacrificing some "middle bass". I may have that wrong, however.

It really depends on how low you crossover.

Even the TN1220 was better when crossed lower...like around 50-60hz.
