Forward firing sub

My room has been designed for the sub to live in a cabinet 5' behind the sofa, facing the back of the sofa through a mesh panel. The cabinet interior dimesions are 23x19x23" hwd. That's about perfect for the VTF3 MK2.

Can I turn that sub on end (amp up) and point the driver out the front of the cabinet? What'll make this perform best?

23 inches is just barely tall enough for the sub to fit. I ran my VTF-3 MK2 face down and the driver facing forward for a while and it sounded just fine. The problem in your situation will be that you will only have 1 inch of clearance for the ports. I say give it a try and see how it sounds.
