After reading around on the internet, it appears that this processor does have bass managment in certian modes.

Bass Management would be the best. You would simply need to run one cable to the sub and the processor would handle the crossover.

However, if Bass Management isn't compatable with the particular mode you are in, there is a problem. You can't just take multiple PRE-OUTs for all 5.1 channels and sum them together with Y-cables. It can short out the system. I can only imagine taking the bass from the front two channels. This would involve running a stereo interconnect with RCA jacks on both ends from the Marantz's front L/R PRE-OUT to the subwoofer.

On the sub, you would then set the crossover to 50 Hz and fine tune. That would work fine for two channel music.

if i would set the speakers to small it come as small/thx and the sub would come up as on/thx.but the sub out jack on the back of the marantz is filter so then wouldn't i be doubling filter then?this is very

The Maratz is set correctly with:

1) Speakers to SMALL
2) Subwoofer to ON

When the speakers are set to SMALL, that means the Marantz is now handling the crossover duties for all speakers. The main speakers will not get any bass below 80Hz, and...

...when the subwoofer is set to ON, now it will receive the bass BELOW 80Hz.

All the crossover duties are handled by the Marantz. VTF subs allow you to disengage the subwoofers crossover, and this is perfect! The Marantz is handling the crossover for you so you don't have to worry. You turn off the VTF's crossover by switching the CROSSOVER switch to OUT--which means the sub's crossover is out of the circuit.

When you say it is double filtered, I'm not sure what you mean. I think you are worried that the subs crossover will be interfering, but since it's defeatable it doesn't matter.

Does this help?
