Hey guys, do any of you use small fans to cool your recievers if they are in enclosed entertainment centers? Doesnt seem like it would be a bad idea. Let me know any recommendation you have. Thanks

Hi illwill

I don't have any first hand experience with external fans, however, people do get small, quiet fans for enclosed entertainment centers. If no one has any other specific recommendation, you may wish to check your favorite AV forum.

Here's a company that sells just the things you're looking for:

In my case, I used a fan assembly made for large computer server racks. It consists of three 5" 120VAC fans on a frame that attaches to the outside rear of the rack. I use a fan dimmer switch to control the speed. Picked it up at a computer/electronics surplus store.

You can buy the individual fans (120VAC or 12VDC w/transformer). Mount them on the back of your entertainment unit and power them with a switched outlet on the receiver (if it has one). That way when you turn on the receiver the fan will come on.
