my room has an unconventional layout and i am not sure where to place the subwoofer

Presently, at a corner with 6ft of wall is not feasible.

I do have a 7k gif file of my room's layout that i would like someone to evaluate and advise. I did send a fax to Dr. Hsu, but he seems busy with emails and other faxes.

Please email me if you can help.

Thank you.

PS I don't understand why Denon would suggest placing the subwoofer by the TV and front speakers?

I aplogize for Dr. Hsu. We just went into production of our new models yesterday, so you can understand that he might be busy with last minute details. You can email me the image and I'll give it a shot at sales@hsuresearch.com .

I do know a few people who suggest putting a subwoofer between the front two speakers. This is not our philosophy. With certain cheap subwoofer, this would be the best place since they are easily localizable in the room due to poor construction and design. High distortion of the subwoofer will make it easy to hear where the subwoofer is playing, so putting a cheap subwoofer between the front two speakers is a band-aid fix for the problem.

We strongly recommend putting and HSU subwoofers near the listener. Alongside the couch or behind the couch is specifically recommended.

Your suggestion of placing the Subwoofer near the listener is surprising.

I did not get a good response that way, and the hum was unbearable (the hum is not due to ground loops, and is plainly evident up to 5 feet away, albeit a reduction in the open loop gain in accordance with Dr. Hsu's suggestion).

I now have the subwoofer 16ft from the listening position and it is okay (Hum is unnoticeable).

From my experience, placing the sub with the front speakers is a poor choice for location. Even placing the sub closer to the listener is not always the best choice either.

Placing the sub at a corner where 2 walls meet will provide for a smooth sound that fills the room much better (better rumbles too). The more walls you have width and height wise, the better off you are. Even if you had a scenario where one wall has the width, but the height is only 3 ft high, it will still sound better than a sub placed against one wall.

Your music will sound that much better. And the rumbles, oh how they shake.

Placement, in my humble opinion, is key for music.
