Hey I am a new member to the forum and need some advice. I recently bought an Ascend system(340 SE Fronts, 170 SE Surrounds) and now I need a subwoofer. Here is a drawing of the room the HT will be in. The couch is the main listening area. The options for placement are labeled A and B. Placement A would be in that corner firing straight(towards the TV end of the room). I was originally going to place it here but am concerned that since there is an opening next to where it would be it would not sound "as good" than the other choices. Placement B would be about 3 feet away from the couch(3 feet from the wall not including the subwoofer). I could also place a subwoofer between the TV and the front speakers on either side. The room is 20x15 and the ceilings are sloped up beginning at about 4 feet going to 8 feet. Also which subwoofer would you guys reccommend? I really dont want to spend more than the VTF-2 MK3 but I would pay a little extra for the STF-3, and I guess I could keep saving for the VTF3-MK3 if it would make that much of difference in this room. Thanks in advance!

dmb, location A is actually a pretty good location to place the subwoofer! No doubt a VTF-3 Mk3 would work well in that room, but probably so would a VTF-2 Mk3, so if budget is an issue then go with the latter. Another place that might work well is actually directly behing the couch.

thanks! I think I am going to go with the left corner behind the couch amd the VT2-MK3. I was just worried it wouldnt sound as good as other locations because there will be that gap directly to the right of the subwoofer where the stairs that go to the bottom level of the house.
