I am trying to search for a subwoofer to match my HT system which is :
Def Tech BP2004 powered L/R , CLR2002 center, BP6B rears. The room size is quite large 30X 26 with 10 ft ceilings. This area includes the family room , b/f nook and kitchen in an open arrangement so I am sure the S/W will have to pressurize this whole volume. Would something like the VTF3 be enough ? Thanks

Not sure what your budget is but I would imagine that dual ULS-15's would be ideal since your Def Tech fronts already have good bass extention so the ULS's would fill in the bottom registers very nicely. I do not speak from experience as I do not own the ULS's so take my opinion with a grain of salt. However, I do own the VTF-3 Mk3 (2 of them now actually) and I do know that they are extremely capable of pressurizing a large room with quality bass. :D

Max budget is the cost of one VTF-3 Mk 3
The system is located in a nook in one corner of the family room at approx 30 to 35 degees to the back wall of the nook ( Wife does not like a parallel to the wall arrangement !) Due to this angulated arrangement , there is enough space behind the HT system to place the subwoofer in the RHS corner with about 2-3 inches clearance from the walls. If I place the subwoofer next to the sofa then a very long run of cable is needed as I am sitting about 15 ft from the system. Can I get away with a VTF-2 if I located the sub next to my sofa?

Next to the couch with the VTF-2 should be fine since it's a down firing sub thus will not be quite as localized as the VTF-3 Mk3. It makes a good end table too. :)

I suppose a very long sub cable wont be a problem. Since the L/R have decent extension (but not a true sub) how would I set up this arrangement? Only LFE to the sub or bass +LFE ? TKs
