To make a long story short, I bought a Sligh entertainment unit to hide the sides of my new Pioneer Elite 53" RPTV and to hide two of the speakers of a 5.1 system (both were part of WAF). However, I became enamored with the Onix Rocket 750s and ended up buying a speaker system with floor speakers that won't go in the entertainment unit.

Now, I'm looking to complete my system by purchasing a sub. The VTF-3 sounds ideal for what I'm looking for. The room I'm using for HT is my great room which is approximately 20'*18' with 9' cathedral ceiling. It has cased openings to other rooms (13'*13' dining room, 25'*13' kitchen, 6'*13' foyer) and has two glass doors to the deck.

My problem is the WAF. When I informed her that there would be another large speaker outside the entertainment center, she was less than thrilled.

I thought about putting the sub inside the entertainment center but the VTF-3 wouldn't fit (the VTF-2 would barely fit - each entertainment center side unit is 21" wide and 20" deep).

Any suggestions on how to sell my wife on the VTF-3?

How about putting a VTF-2 (or two) inside the entertainment center?

There is a great solution for you: the VTF-3R, with rosewood and gloss black endcaps. Really beautiful! One VTF-3 is actually a better choice than two VTF-2's because of response.

I just went through the whole rosewood thing with the Onix Rockets. While I think rosewood is an attractive finish, it doesn't go well with the other furniture in the room. I ended up paying extra for the ebony Rockets because of the color mismatch.

How much does the VTF-3 vibrate? Is it possible to use it as a table by covering it with wood or marble?

Maybe you can inquire with the people at Hsu and find out when additional wood finish options are available. I know they are planning on having more options in the future (maybe even by christmas time?).

The VTF-3 is a very solid structure, and the main thing that would vibrate is your room! Sasha Goodman of Hsu Research did hint though that the VTF-3 will have some luxury upgrades when it is back in stock at the end of November, but they won't let the cat out of the bag until it is ready to go.

At our release party for the VTF-3R, I placed a cup of water directly on top of the 90 lb cabinet (no coaster or anything), and turned up the volume loud. The water on top didn't even vibrate, although the room was shaking! If you used coasters with felt or cork bottoms, I don't think you would have any problems putting things on top.

As far as making a table, I'm not sure. I think that the lamp shade might vibrate a little bit, but will not vibrate off, especially if secured with a little Earthquake/museum wax found at Home Depot.

Becausee the cabinet is so heavy, it doesn't vibrate that much. Its a litte known fact that when filming Jurassic park, they had to use invisible thread to make the ripples in the water!
