System is starting to come together now. Just got an Onkyo PR-SC5507P pre/pro. It will be hooked up to an Emotiva UPA-7 for awhile. After that, I need to decide between yet more power, or dual MBMs!

Very nice Ross, very nice. It's only going to get better from here :)

Very nice Ross. However, as the saying goes "It didn't happen without pictures" ;)

Yes. As soon as everything is together, I'll take a pic. Unless you just want to see the pre/pro sitting on the table? LOL

LOL

I want to see a pic before the box is open, then one with it in the box, then one on the table. Followed by the opening in the rack before you place it, then one pic in the rack, then a shot of your wire management from the back side. You get the idea? :p

I, too just bought the 5507 so I will be watching in earnest on your set-up progress. I am a bit of a techno-phobe when it comes to getting things set up right so it's nice to see someone else in the forum with a piece of equipment that I have. off sun & mon and will be adding it to my system....albeit very slowly.

Okay,

First phase is complete. All of the components are up and running.

Anybody know how to post pics?

I didn't get a chance to really test the new pre-pro. Today won't work either as company is coming in a bit. I did run Audyssey last night though and watched a lame movie on Sci-Fi.

My initial impressions are good! The setup appeared to get the distances right and the levels appeared reasonable. The dual sub calibration is awesome and adjusted the corner loaded sub about -6db from the other. The levels for the subs seemed within reason also. On the Yamaha I always had to kick it up around 3 to 4.5 db to make it sound "right".

Compared to the low-end Yamaha, the voices appear much more clear and less boomy. I also noticed that the movie modes actually sounded different from mode to mode. On the Yamaha, the primary Dolby modes were much less discernable. Other than setting it up and watching the one movie though, nothing else has been done. If anybody has a Harmony One remote, I used the "Receiver" type when setting up the pre/pro. It appears to work properly.

Some time this week, or next weekend, I'll get a chance to watch some blu-rays and see if I can get the internet streaming to work.

I have Audyssey in a Integra DHC 9.9 and was impressed with how it works. I went one step further and installed Pro along with Audyssey Sub EQ for 2 subs and that blows my mind. Subs with the mains are within 1 db of each other for leveling. Played the opening scene for Open Range and when the rain and thunder hit, I was looking for a towel.

The pro-calibration is currently not offered on the Onkyo. Possibly it will be added down the line, but it may only be reserved for Integra.

You have MultEQ XT (http://forum.hsuresearch.com/technology/multeq/multeq-solutions.html) on the unit and you can have Audyssey Pro done to it. Pro will do up to 32 positions in the room, while Multi will only do 8. With an installer kit (done by you or installer) the Pro will be many times more effective than Multi.

With all due respect Bill, no you can't. The Onkyo pre/pro does not offer pro calibration. If you check the Audyssey site, you will see that it is not available.

Now, this was as of a couple of weeks ago. If it has changed since then, I wouldn't know. The AV Science site, I believe, also has a thread concerning this where installers were not able to buy the pro kit for the Onkyo.

Looks nice, but are you sure you want to place that direct tv thing on your Onkyo? Those Onkyos really need ventilation. I see you have cooling in back of it, but I would still find another place for it. Perhaps you could use some kind of riser for the direct tv thing and give the onkyo a few inches of space.

What a beautiful setup you have there Ross, thanks for sharing! Are those Paradigm speakers?

I was curious to know if you are using anything in between the ULS and the main speaker that is sitting on top.

The ULS's should be hugely impressive in this space :)

Things are looking great so far, keep up the good work!

Sincerely,

Agreed, beautiful system! And it does look like there are some fans behind the box to provide cooling. Or are those supposed to be stove fans that inhale the grease and cooking odors when you are frying eggs on top of the Onkyo? :D

I had that concern also, but it's plenty cool in there. The vents on the Onkyo are on the the back 7, or so, inches and totally clear the DTV receiver.

Hi Pete,

There are some soft, rubbery, type pads in place of where the spikes would normally go on the speakers. It leaves about a 1mm gap.

They definitely are impressive. Probably overkill, but that's part of the fun of this hobby.

The front speakers the Paradigm Special Editions. The rears are Paradigm ADP-190s. I might update the rears some day, but they sound really nice as-is.

Very nice looking Ross. You take good pictures. I also like how you added the exhaust fans to the cabinet.

I have some other suggestions about your setup but only if you are interested.

LOL.

Yes, fans. Each side has 3 Scythe 120mm fans. Even after a few hours, the components remain at room temperatures.

Fortunately, the openings for the components are of standard rack width, so it made it much easier to install the fans using a 3U fan rack.
