View Full Version : Minimum Impedance

I plan to buy VT-12 set + STF-3.
The manual for my receiver (Denon AVR-3803) states:
...this unit offers A and B surround speaker outputs. This allows you to connect two sets of surround speakers. Note: The minimum impedance for Surround A or B is 6 ohms, and for Surround A + B is 8 ohms.
I was planning on connecting two of the surrounds to A and the third speaker to B. I hope that this is ok. Does the VT-12 surrounds satisfy the minimum impedance requirement for my receiver in this set up.
Thanks

The Nominal Impedance of the VT-12 are 8 ohms so you should be fine. You can read more about them by clicking "Return to the homepage" above and then highlighting speakers... then going down to VT-12. Best of luck and good catch about the impedance!

I'm not quite clear on what you are trying to do when you mention the surrrounds on speaker B. You should hook the Vents up with the surround going to the surround outs from the receiver and then you would have no worries about impedence.

Many Denon receivers offer an option of two sets of surrounds, A and B. That way you can optiimize your room for both HT and music. One set of dipoles at optimum position for HT, and another set of surrounds (usually further back) for music. You get the option of using surround A, surround B or both. But these receivers usually also have a surround rear, which is where you would usually connect the 6th (and 7th) speaker.
But I could be wrong.

Thanks to all for your responses.
Frank, While there is no direct mention of how to connect the 6th speaker in the manual, I think that you are right about connecting the 6th speaker to the Surround Back - you can sort of infer the same from the extract below from AVR-3803 manual:
The AVR-3803 has nine speaker outputs for Front left and right, Center, Surround A left and right, Surround B left and right, and Surround Back/Zone 2 left and right...
The AVR-3803's Power Amplifier Assign function lets you assign the 2 Surround Back (SB L/R) amplifier channels when the system is not configured for 7.1 to instead drive the Multi-room Zone 2 speakers with 110 Watts per channel output power, while still providing 5 discrete amplifier channels to drive all speakers in a 5.1 configured home theater room
Currently, I have only two bookshelf speakers connected to my receiver. This 6.1 is all new to me and so I thank you all for answering my simple questions.
