I think that the best advice that I can give you is to take the time to properly calibrate the sub to the rest of your speakers. It seems that most of the problems and complaints on this forum lately are the result of improperly adjusted subs.....way too "hot" or the receiver is not set up right...etc. Don't just plug it in and go, and don't adjust by ear. Either use a good auto setup routine on your receiver/processor or use a SPL meter.
GOOD LUCK and enjoy !:D

I would suggest a few things but back what was just said... "take your time!"
Break it in for a day atleast. Don't just plug and play loud, let it move a little and break in for a few hours or more. You will have years to crank it and piss people off - or enjoy the sound (however you prefer to pitch it :p ).
Get a Radio Shack SPL Meter and read the directions so there are no questions. The auto setup features are nice but many times the seem to misinterpret the room and the setup is off. I find the SPL to be quite accurate (not to say the auto setup doesn't and can't work well for your situation). Use quality cable and no it doesn't have to be $100 high end cable, reasonable sheilded cable will work (some have flow arrows on them... make the arrows point to the sub). Sit back and enjoy new sound at a reasonable level the first day and have some fun the next. Use the test CD the second day if you get one with your sub.
Have fun and let us know what you think!

If break in really does exist, I don't beleive it does, it should only take a few seconds. I say let her rip and enjoy what it can do from the get go.

Start off by setting the volume adjustment on the back of the sub to the 9:00 o'clock position. Don't turn it to the noon or 3 o'clock position like you do with some mainstrean cheap (low quality) subs.

Amen to what the previous poster said. I have a large room an I bought a smallish sub. Was a little concerned. Set the power at 9 o'clock and was pleasantly surprised when Receiver-doing auto setup,:o requested that I turn the power down. Receier was happy at 8 0'clock. I was indeed surprised!
Start no higher than 9 0'clock.

Even the good Dr. told me that I don't need to turn it up past 9o'clock. I asked "why ever have the dial on there then?" He laughed, and in a questionable tone said "I don't know!"
I had to laugh, but it is true... there is no reason to even use the volume dial except to squeze some out for sound. Enjoy it my friend!

Even the good Dr. told me that I don't need to turn it up past 9o'clock. I asked "why ever have the dial on there then?" He laughed, and in a questionable tone said "I don't know! There are situations where a amplifier has very high gain, requiring a low input from the preamp. For the preamp to still be able to drive the subwoofer to an adaquate level comparable to the rest of the speakers, the sub's input stage has to have that extra gain.

Appreciate all your replies, unfortunatly was unable to setup sub today, Fedex has mastered the art of putting packages in there delivery truck but hasn,t got the hang of taking them out or simply put they didn ,t deliver. CSRs are something else was told since they missed me Friday and don,t deliver on Saturday or Sunday they would try again. Monday. Like right, after half a dozen calls we settled on Saturday, so will see if they can get that sub out of the truck tomorrow. Thanks again. Jerry
