I am having issues with my subwoofer being too quiet when I listen to music in stereo. I hear it working but it's just a little too faint for my liking. When I watch movies it isn't an issue. The main problem is that if I try to adjust the subwoofer level to fix this for music then the bass is overbearing for movies. I haven't figured out if you can set the bass differently for each listening mode or source. If someone that owns a Onkyo TX-SR706 knows how to fix this I would be grateful for your help.

I am using the same AVR but don't seem to have the same issue as you do. You can use the Audio button on the remote to temporarily adjust the sub level (it returns to the normal setting once you turn off the AVR). Another thing you might try is in the Setup menu, you can adjust the LFE levels for different audio codecs such as DTS, Dolby, etc. If you seem to be experiencing too high a level of bass in movies on everything, I guess you'd have to run setup to lower the LFE levels for all the different audio standards; those don't affect what normally plays from stereo sources so that would be another option. There is also somewhere else in the setup menu where you can level match the input sources, but then that is for the entire range of sound, not just the sub levels.

Another thing you can try turn up the volume level on the sub itself to suit your tastes with stereo, then rerun Audyssey to set the sub levels.

I probably will just increase the overall level of the subwoofer and then decrease the volume for each of the different codecs using my SPL meter. Hopefully that will work fine. So if I increase it by 2 decibels then I will decrease each codec by 2 decibels. If I have the sub crossed over at 80 LFE includes all frequencies below 80 correct? In the next couple days I will try this and see if it works. Thanks for the help.

Did you use Audyssey?
Do you have Dynamic EQ activated?
Where are your LPF and crossovers set at?

I use Audyssey
I am not sure if Dynamic EQ is activated. What exactly does this do?
The crossover is set to 80 for all speakers. I am not familiar with LPF.

Dynamic EQ can be found by pressing the "Audio" button on your remote, then scrolling through the options. Supposedly it adjusts the equalization curve based on the volume setting. I find it mainly makes the bass louder to compensate when the volume is lower. It is similar to the loudness button that older receivers used to have except it is supposed to be a continuously variable curve, rather than just on or off.
