I've been searching the forum and haven't seen this question asked.
Price is not really an object, and almost any HSU sub should be "big enough" for my small room.
Is there a real musical benefit to be had simply by going larger?

they are all musical. Dr Hsu has extremely good ears.

How big is your room? I would say that VTF-3 MK2 or VTF-2 MK3 would be plenty for a small room to medium size room.

Best I would think that would benefit you by going larger is to be able to play the largest pipe organ music that has 16Hz tones. Odds are that anything 3.2 or 2.3 or larger will get all the Hz for any music. I would believe that all of their subs would be good if you have a small room. I would stick with ones that will drop to 20-25Hz minimum though just so you can get and appreciate the full range, as well as it will perform well for HT.
I have the 2.3 and a 4500cuft room... it is more than enough for me!
